NOTE: This is a story puzzle based on the award-winning LION CITY ADVENTURES series by Don Bosco. Can you solve it?

Ethan entered his Aunt Shirley’s special room in the basement of her big house in Changi. Even though he knew what to expect, he still gasped at the sight. The place was covered with clocks from floor to ceiling. Wall to wall. There were big clocks, small clocks, old clocks, new clocks, clocks from every corner of the world.

Aunt Shirley noticed the look on his face. She smiled with pride. “Remember, don’t touch anything,” she said. “This collection is worth a fortune.”

“Yes, Aunt Shirley!” Ethan replied. He pulled out a new notebook from his bag and turned to the first page. “Thanks for letting me write about your clocks. This will be my first article for the Lion City Adventuring Club’s newsletter.”

Aunt Shirley nodded. She was in a hurry to get back to her baking. “Call your mother when you’re done. She’ll come pick you up. I hope. I have a lot of baking to do.” Then she waved and went out.

Ethan found a few of the clocks especially intriguing. He made sketches in his notebooks, and wrote down questions to ask his aunt. He was lost in his work, until he suddenly heard his mother’s voice just outside.

“You said you’d take an hour,” his mother said curtly when she came in. She was clearly annoyed. “Don’t you know what time it is already?”

Ethan looked at the clocks all around him. He frowned and shook his head. “Sorry, Ma. I honestly have no idea.”

The clocks were all working nicely. So how was this possible?

(Scroll down for the answer.)
