Sail Away to Best North Shore Resort

The Tall Ships are back this summer and they brought a friend!

This year, the Tall Ships will sail into Duluth Harbor August 18th-21st. Plus, they are bringing the world’s largest Rubber Duck. Staying in Duluth’s Canal Park area during this time can become crowded. Head to Superior Shores during your stay, for this fun weekend of old boats and art. Superior Shores Resort has everything you’ll need for this amazing weekend and you get the benefit of not having to deal with the crowds, once you’re ready to relax!

What are Tall Ships?

The Tall Ships are a fleet of ships with amazing maritime history, many of them are replica historic ships from the past, others are used for education and sailing. This year, spectators will be able to see the replica, El Galeon Andalucía, a 16th-17th century Galleon that was once used by the Spanish Crown, the world’s largest replica Viking ship built in modern times, named the Draken Harald Hårfagre, the US Brig Niagara — a smaller ship, originally built in 1813 and used to defeat the British at Lake Erie, a recreation of a 19th century Great Lakes Schooner, the Denis Sullivan, and many more wonderful ships.

The Parade of Sail begins Thursday, August 18th around 1pm, although that is subject to change due in part to the individual travel speeds of the ships themselves.

A Festival within A Festival!

Once the Tall ships sail into the harbor you can catch a glimpse of what some of the most prestigious ships look like from all around the world. On top of being able to step aboard these replica ships, you’ll also be able to check out the 150+ art vendors that will be in Bayfront Park for Art in Bayfront Park. Plus… you get to see and take photos with the world’s largest rubber duck, who wouldn’t want that?

Take a look at the Tall Ships Duluth page, for ticket information because there are different types of ticket options. You can go for a single day or the whole weekend if you’d like! They even offer day sails and educational programs dedicated to learning about the rich maritime history of these epic ships.

You might even spot Jack Sparrow, himself, as he has been known to sail the Great Lakes from time to time. Make sure you have your weekend plans ready at Superior Shores Resort when the Tall Ships sail into town. This is an event you won’t want to miss, with Superior Shores as your home-base for a comfy, cozy summer night down by Lake Superior.
