Will Jeff Sessions’ Latest Move Prevent President Trump from Firing Him?

United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ job is on the chopping block. President Donald Trump has made no secret of the fact that he is disappointed in the work or lack there of that he believes Sessions has done.

It’s also a fact that Trump believes that Sessions should never have recused himself regarding “all things associated with the Russia investigation” or witch hunt that Democrats have undertaken to undermine his presidency.

Trump said on Tuesday when asked about whether he had lost confidence in Sessions, if he wanted him to resign or whether he would be fired, Trump said:

“Well, I don’t think I am doing that, but I am disappointed in the Attorney General. He should not have recused himself almost immediately after he took office. And if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me prior to taking office, and I would have, quite simply, picked somebody else. So I think that’s a bad thing not for the President, but for the presidency. I think it’s unfair to the presidency. And that’s the way I feel. Thank you.”

Trump has also called Sessions out for his inaction against investigating “Hillary Clinton crimes and Intel leakers.”

Trump recently tweeted:

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!”

It has recently been rumored that Trump is consulting with White House advisers to determine what should be done with Sessions. Sessions has indicated that he has no plans of resigning.

Is there any way for Sessions to win back favor in the eyes of his boss?

Sessions may have found a way to give himself at least a temporary reprieve.

On Tuesday, Sessions took a tough stance against ‘sanctuary cities.’

In a move that many have been waiting for, Sessions imposed new grant conditions on those wishing to continue receiving federal money.

Two new conditions must now be met in order for cities to receive funds from grant programs.

They are as follows:

• Immigration authorities must receive access to local jails and prisons
• and these federal authorities must be given a 48-hour notice before an illegal immigrant wanted by the feds is released.

The message that Sessions is sending is clear. If you want to continue receiving needed federal dollars then you must discontinue your pro-illegal immigrant practices.

Sessions said in a statement:

“So-called ‘sanctuary’ policies make all of us less safe because they intentionally undermine our laws and protect illegal aliens who have committed crimes.”

“These policies also encourage illegal immigration and even human trafficking by perpetuating the lie that in certain cities, illegal aliens can live outside the law. This can have tragic consequences, like the 10 deaths we saw in San Antonio this weekend. This is what the American people should be able to expect from their cities and states, and these long overdue requirements will help us take down MS-13 and other violent transnational gangs, and make our country safer.”

Trump made a point in his rally in Youngstown, Ohio Tuesday night to speak about those who are victimized by illegal immigrants and those in MS-13 gangs who are protected by sanctuary city policies. It was clear by Trump’s speech that American’s safety is a top priority.

Will Sessions’ laetst move be enough to save his job?

As Trump remarked on Tuesday during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Hariri of Lebanon when a reporter asked him whether he would fire Sessions, Trump replied:

“Time will tell. Time will tell.”
