How the Corona Virus Quarantine is teaching me to grow my business.
Journal Entry 4/21 for 3 Year to Freedom Journal
It’s been an eye-opening experience to be quarantined at home for the past 30 days. My job ended when the planes stopped flying and will continue to be gone until the planes start flying regularly again. During this time in isolation I have tried to stay busy. But busy only lasts so long and then depression sets in, boredom sets in, nothing sounds fun and binge-watching tv sounds as exciting as sitting through a lecture on amoebas.
That’s when I realized, “This isolation is a taste of my stay at home business plan!” That’s when I changed my attitude about this gift of free time.
I have worked from home on and off since 1996 so I have a good work from home mindset. But I’ve never been forced to stay home and have tons of time to work on my business. That revelation came as a bit of a surprise. I had to reset my thinking.
To help work on my internet business I had to do a few things:
- I had to step back from time-wasters like the news and binge-watching tv. Sure some recreation time is necessary, but spending all day in front of the tube soaking up nonsense was not inspiring.
2. I needed to adopt ‘working hours’ and a system to make efficient use of my work time, projects and tasks. Making sure I followed a task list and used my planner to set project start and completion times.
3. I had to create a morning motivation routine to inspire daily work when it’s super easy to get distracted. I find that if I miss morning inspiration I can set myself up easily to waste the whole day. Having a good morning routine sets my positive attitude in gear to move forward and make progress.
As I glide into this ‘New Working From Home Normal’ I have to realize that this is what working from home will feel like in 3 years when my plan is successful.
I will need the discipline to stay on track, make and keep goals on projects and not give in to the temptation to step out during my proposed work hours to browse through the mall.
In conclusion, I had to see this self-isolation time as a gift, not a burden. This is the time I have been clamoring for to spend it on my 3-year plan and I can see great strides to my success in the past 4 weeks! That alone is highly motivating.
My Facebook follows, Medium claps, Youtube likes, Instagram hearts and all those social media audiences I am trying to grow are growing exponentially because I am home and focused on my plan.
