Aiden’s Bolt for Breath

First things first, I finally came up with a name for the race. After a week of brainstorming and talking with other people, I have decided to name the 5k run Aiden’s Bolt for Breath.

I really want this race to go well. I’m already nervous and it isn’t until
Spring time. This isn’t just another race, it has a purpose and it gives me a
purpose. The profits from Aiden’s Bolt for Breath will go to Aiden to help pay for the medical bills that the insurance company doesn’t pay for. Aiden was in an awful accident when he was thirteen months old. He was in a car crash that stretched (but did not break) his cervical spinal, leaving him a quadriplegic and in need of a ventilator to breath. Aiden is almost six now and is beginning to regain movement in his neck. He goes to kindergarten at Hinkle Creek Elementary School like every other five year old. When I heard his story, I knew that I have to help Aiden and his family. His mother had always dreamed about having a race to benefit her son and I am going to be the person to make that happen.

His story gives me strength. Everyone complains about their own life, but can you imagine spending your entire life in a wheelchair, going to constant
doctor’s appointments, and having to rely on other people and equipment for everything including breathing. I cannot wait for this race to happen, because it will be so good for him. Not only will the profits go towards his medical bills and buying a wheelchair accessible van, but Aiden is going to be at the race. His mother wants Aiden to be at the event so that people understand who they’re running for. He’s going to be at the race and be part of the activities. Seeing Aiden will allow people to not just see this 5k as a race, but as something that will better a young boys life. I will do everything I can to make this race great for Aiden.
