5 Things You Should not Ignore While Driving

Was That My Fault?
According to the National Transportation Bureau reports, nearly 80% of all accidents occur because of driver’s inattentiveness and the main culprit is not the cell phone. Think of the people that you see driving during the morning rush hour. You think to yourself, “How stupid can these people be?” to act so irresponsible. Your Sunshine Coast driving school instructors didn’t tell you about these. Some of the more outrageous acts that have caused accidents are:
- People eat in cars all the time. Donuts, coffee, sandwich or even soup. A man in Ottawa, Canada was arrested for weaving all over the road. When police arrived, they found the man was eating a rotisserie chicken while driving. A Sacramento driver was arrested for a 3 car crash because she was wiping taco crumbs off of her lap while driving. Add in the split coffee and that accounts for a majority of accidents. Moral of the story; if you want a sit down meal, eat it where you can actually eat sitting down.
- Stripping is being reported more often now. Drivers are removing suit coats with both hands and driving with their knees. Other drivers are changing clothes at the same time they are driving. If you need to change your clothes either wait for a red light or else pull over into a rest room. These two drivers were the cause of 8 deaths that were preventable.
- Fights between the passenger and driver are becoming widespread. Driving for a road trip or even to the local grocery store can bring out the worse in people. Road rage, getting lost or bad feelings left over from previous acts have left people actually fighting on the road often with hands. It is hard to drive safely and fight at the same time.
- Putting on make-up while driving has led to 3% of accidents. Women are applying the make-up on the highway and just not at red lights. The best thing to do is to wait until you park your car in the garage, and then apply the makeup. Men, this goes for shaving, too.
- Of course, drinking while driving is an accident waiting to happen. That was one of the main topics covered in Adelaide driving school. Most people have a designated driver who doesn’t drink while you are out. Better than that, hire a cab or limo service to transport you to and from your destination. There is no reason to drive drunk any longer, there are other options.
- Using your GPS, while useful, can also be hazardous. Using a GPS is the same as talking on a cell phone. A GPS uses critical brain functions that can interfere with safely driving. It hinders visual, manual and cognitive abilities all the while you are trying to concentrate on obeying the road.
- Speeding is deadly. 31% of all deadly accidents are caused by speeding. This percentage also occurs when you are driving too quickly for the road conditions. Rain and snow should slow your speed down.
- Reading while driving. More and more drivers have a book in their lap while driving. Most are reading books. They only pay attention for a few minutes at a time which can cause rear end damage to the car in front of you.
With the amount of devices available, it is the responsibility of the driver to use them safely and wisely. Encourage your family, especially teens, to drive responsibly. Insurance can be expensive after an accident and the cost of hospitals, doctors and medicine can be costly to both your business and your savings account.
