Diaries and reminders
In diaries Allen puts a case tied to a specific time of a day, or simply tied to some day.
He does not believe in the efficiency of such a system, in which a man paints the whole day by the minute. Such a system will break down all the time due to unexpected events or incorrect assessment of the required time. Plan of the day should be as general and flexible.
In the calendar make only things rigidly adhered to date. Do not make the case that for example “would be nice” to make this date.
From my experience I can give an example of how I learned to use the diary. This autumn I have had days in which it would seem impossible to do so many things. In one of those days I had a mid term microeconomics, and then I had to rush to the doctor to be checked as I had a serious problem with the ear, at 4 o’clock that day my grandmother and sister arrived to Almaty-2 railway station and I had to meet them from the station and settle for an apartment. These were the main problems, after doing them I could proceed to secondary cases, such as buy food and medicines, and to clean up the dorm room. I started using the diary for some time before that day and a clear schedule of all cases during the day in my notebook helped me and I not only done all the work in the day but also met with my friends in the evening.
