Swellbox demos the Record Request Wizard at ONC 2018

Dec 3, 2018 · 2 min read

Our presentation at the ONC’s 2018 Annual Meeting can be boiled down to this: a demo is worth a thousand tweets.

The meeting was perhaps this year’s largest gathering of political star power in Health IT, including Senators Tammy Baldwin and Lamar Alexander. Alexander gave his vision for health IT of “letting the world make the apps.” We agree.

We delivered the following message to ONC attendees:

HOSPITAL SYSTEMS: The Wizard is ready to implement. Your health system can improve patient experience and cut down on administrative burden starting now.

POLICYMAKERS: We also asked policymakers to change the language regarding electronic signature in the HIPAA Right of Access — from a “may accept” to a “must accept.” HIM departments already accept wet signatures sent via fax machines. Digital forms that include ID capture and phone number verification should be treated as more secure than fax, not less.

When patients are empowered during the record request process, everyone wins. If you’re interested in trying out the Wizard, a prototype is available at www.healthrecordwizard.com. We look forward to your comments.
