Holy cow, this might have been longer than the actual article. You’ve put out some great ideas, though! I don’t know if placing the ball at the 1-yard line is the best idea, though; I’m definitely in favor of ejecting players for targeting (like Joey Bosa in his bowl game last season). My biggest qualm about the yardage marked off for personal fouls is, what if you get penalized for targeting the opposing QB when he’s tossing a pass from inside your own 5-yard line? Half the distance to the goal is marked off, but that might only amount to one or two yards lost. Should the NFL add steeper penalties when a personal foul occurs inside the defenses red zone? Does the offense get awarded one extra point? I honestly don’t have a good answer for these questions.
