Defend the #SydneyHomeless #247StreetKitchenSafeSpace- on the ground.
The @cityofsydney’s latest anti homeless action against the homeless organised #247StreetKitchenSafeSpace is scheduled to take place Saturday morning.
This is the latest in a decades long Council orchestrated attempt to get homeless people out of Sydney. The last thing City of Sydney want is an organised homeless community co existing with its desired population. The City of Sydney has already disrupted the #247StreetKitchenSafeSpace 4 times.
Police courteously called to notify us that they would be attending Saturday morning from about 6 a.m.
We received a printed item from City of Sydney Homelessness unit wednesday saying the developer needed to erect hoardings and that the area would no longer be accessible to the public. No mention of Council removing our equipment.
Today I am going to the supreme court seeking an injunction to stay the erection of hoardings a) as they do not appear to have development approval OR that the #247StreetKitchenSafeSpace community were not given adequate notice to plan relocation AND
b) that the public have been denied the opportunity to object to the alienation of public space.
If successful, these proceedings will buy a stay of execution. Whether successful or not at some point we will have to move.
Notification of outcomes will be posted here by 12:30 today.
THE PUBLIC ARE INVITED TO SLEEPOUT WITH THE HOMELESS AT MARTIN PLACE TONIGHT FRIDAY 23rd June 2017.
5 a.m. Saturday breakfast then a call to action.
People needed with skills as legal observers, human rights observers, photographers, videographers.
Police liaison will be Nigel Blakemore.
Media liaison will be myself (ph 0410722000). Workshops will be held overnight.
NO MEANINGFUL INFORMED CONSULTATIONS HAVE BEEN HAD BETWEEN THE SAFE SPACE COMMUNITY AND THE COUNCIL.
