Early 19th century landmark ravaged in fire
Monday night, an accidental fire destroyed a historic Loudoun County home located near Purcellville. Investigators believe the fire was the result of “flammable vapors that were ignited by an electrical source.” According to reports, the house, which was built between the late 1700s to the early 1800s, is a total loss.
Manassas man killed in two car collision
Rodney James Wells, of Manassas, died in a two car collision on Wednesday night. Wells, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Echo, reportedly hit a 2007 BMW X5 while crossing Dumfries Road. Wells died of his injuries shortly after the accident, while the driver of the BMW was left unharmed.
Oil sheen in the Potomac River under investigation
An oily sheen was spotted on the surface of the Potomac River on Thursday. Investigators have identified the source of the oil to be coming from an outfall at Roaches Run, a tidal pond that runs off directly into the Potomac. Booms have been placed to contain further oil and stop the spread.
