“Design” is also a skilled profession. And while I’m sure it’s not the intent of this piece, this kind of thinking trivializes the profession. By this same logic I could claim to be an engineer.
engineer — (noun) a person who designs, builds, or maintains engines, machines, or public works.
engineer — (verb) design and build (a machine or structure).
I get what you mean about not being a “good designer,” but I don’t think it’d be respectful to those who have worked hard for those degrees and paid their dues to claim the title of “engineer” in any form.
Different perspectives are essential to making quality products, and we should just be willing to embrace and celebrate our differences in the decision making process without sharing titles.
