There was a time when fighting games lorded over the video game industry, and Street Fighter II is still regarded as the one that launched the genre. Behind this massive success is Japanese video game designer Yoshiki Okamoto, who joins the Whole Earth Foundation Team as their Game Advisor.

Okamoto is the Director of OKAKICHI SDN.BHD. and the Chairman of Japan Game Culture Foundation since November 2017. He continues to use this role to support young game creators, possibly due to his own experience on this career path.

During the early stages of his career with Konami, Okamoto was able to produce many more successful games including Time Pilot (1982) and Gyruss (1983). His stint with Capcom led him to directing various arcade games, most notable of which were Gun Smoke (1985), which inspired the first of the Red Dead series and of course Street Fighter II. The latter holds the distinction of being one of the highest-grossing video game of all time. He later on continued developing games through Flagship and Game Republic: his own video game development companies.

Other key TEKKON members are expected to contribute their own expertise to the project’s success, but Okamoto is actively involved in gamification mechanisms to encourage participant engagement.

Whole Earth Foundation is behind TEKKON, the first infrastructure-related, find-to-earn NFT game.
