I wrote an essay about working overnights.

I can’t say I’ve experienced grief to this degree, but I do remember working the night shift for several months. It was a very sad time in my life, and I spent many evenings crying as I prepared to go to work. Some Christian sects have a tradition of all-night prayer services in which they spend the whole night praying and speaking to God. Where I live, I often hear the loud prayers coming from the churches at night. I can see the spiritual appeal, as you’re sacrificing things so vital as sleep and daylight in supplication to the Almighty. It’s nothing less than a sacrifice. But to have your nights filled not by spiritual healing, but by sights and experiences that would startle people even during the day…you have every reason to feel grief now. You have every right to feel anger. But I wish you healing and more happiness like that time in Wyoming. Thanks for sharing this.
