What is EN818–2 Lifting Chain?
We are always been asked by our customers what is EN818–2 lifting chain. Many customer import from China the lifting chains for years, but few customers can really understand the difference between regular chains and lifting equipment and EN818–2 lifting Chain because the general specification for both chains looks almost the same. EN818–2 Lifting chain refer to the medium tolerance chain that used to make chain slings for lifting purpose and manufactured strictly according to EN818–2 standard in which there is detailed specify to the chain material, dimensions, strength, elongation and so on.
When we talked about lifting chain rigging, it refers to the short link chain grade to 8. Generally, there are several mostly used material that can meet the mechanical properties of grade 8. Saying, 20Mn2, 25Mv and 8620. The difference between these materials are their chemical elements. In these three mostly used materials, only 8620 material can really meet the chemical composition required by EN818–2. 8620 material contain 40% Nickle element, 40% Chrome element, 15% Molybdenum element and a minimum Aluminum element 0.0025% which can stabilized the lifting chain against strain-age embrittlement during service. In another words, the lifting chain made by 8620 material (EN818–2 chain) has better fatigue resistance than the regular lifting chain.

Grade Introduce And Application Of The Lifting Chain
The chain used for lifting purpose will minimum reach grade 8. Generally, we have the following grade indications for the lifting chain application.
Is the medium tolerance link chain grade to 8, mainly used for same grade chain sling.
Is the medium tolerance link chain grade to 10, also used for same grade chain sling.
Is the fine tolerance link chain grade to 8, also named hoist chain. It is mainly applied on manual hoist equipment.
Is the fine tolerance link chain grade to 10, used for manual hoist that have higher strength requirement or where you need the same strength, but with lighter dead weight.
Is the fine tolerance link chain grade to 8 with carburizing treatment. This chain has higher surface hardness and/or greater case depth to optimise wear resistance. So it is mostly used for high speed power drive hoist.
