The Only Reason You Need To Live

“You taught me the courage of stars before you left.

How light carries on endlessly, even after death.

With shortness of breath, you explained the infinite.

How rare and beautiful it is to even exist.”

— Saturn by Sleeping At Last

In our entire universe, there are estimated to be billions of solar systems. In our solar system alone, there are estimated to be billions of planets. As of today, Earth is the only publicly known planet containing human life…

pause. (please allow that to sink in)

Have you ever thought about how extraordinary that truly is?

I, myself, get emotional when I contemplate it. Especially in the environment I work in. I work at a psychiatric facility and to me, there is no sadder way to go than suicide. More than half the patients here are here because they’re a danger to themselves. Sure there are biological factors that play into a persons chemical and emotional state. But studies also show that environment and what you say to yourself play a major part. A lot of people can repress their biological tendencies. It’s not easy. It is one of the hardest things to do. However, it is worth it. Life is worth it. Every heart beat counts. But if for some reason you don’t believe that, please hear me out…

You are rare. YOU ARE EXTRAORDINARILY RARE. There is only ONE you. The universe had to work in miraculous ways to create YOU. There is not one person on this planet with the same experiences as you, with the same chemical make up or exact genes as you. Your strengths and weaknesses can not be measured to anyone else’s (despite what academia claims). You are so incredibly rare and that’s what makes you beautiful. You have something to offer this world. It may seem small but your existence matters.

With that being said, please for the love of all living things be who you’re suppose to be. Do what you feel you need to do. Listen to your gut, follow your heart. Walk your path. Be unique. Do it because you love it. Express yourself in whatever way you feel necessary. Never be afraid to fail and know that, in this moment you are exactly who and where you are suppose to be. The universe has a plan for you. Failure, misery, defeat, hardships, tragedies are your greatest tools for growth. Embrace them.

&Last but not least, love all of these things about yourself and know that they are the reasons you were created.
