I wouldnt call it absurd per se, because for years nothing could touch us because of our Carriers. The ability to provide air support whenever and wherever is nice. It’s a luxury most nations don’t have, and that no nations have in the scope we have. No matter where our forces go we enjoy air superiority.

To me that’s not necessarily absurd, just ridiculously expensive. I understand the reason we have them, and I understand that “times they are a’changin” and we need to get with it or accept a change in status quo.
