A Meaningful Life

A life of becoming has its perils for it gives people, sometimes, the false hope that they are actually moving towards some goal. Normally, the downside of always wanting to become something else lies on the fact that people are not alright with themselves, they can’t bear to be with themselves. The idea of spending some quite time alone frightens them to the bones and propels them into action, any action, however meaningless it may be. It is a dreadful scenario when, at any point of one’s life, a person looks within and doesn’t find any peace or joy that gives him the opportunity of just being there, no regrets, no pain, no judgement, no immediate-action-driven desire, just a quiet, acceptable and natural moment. In other words, oftentimes the constant pursuit of short-term satisfaction through all sorts of external experiences hides a sorrowful reality that the individual thinks that his life is a miserable, not satisfactory and unfulfilled journey. Meanwhile, bear in mind that I’m not advocating a completely passive life devoid of goals and pursuits. On the contrary, I firmly believe that we all should have our very well defined goals and pursue it through an active life, but they must fulfill one’s innermost desires and elevates one’s existence because when a person does it, he will find enough contentment and fulfillment that will allow him to be with himself at ease. In other words, if a person is trying to become what he is not, or desires not, disappointments and a tremendous sense of non-fulfillment will always be damaging his sense of self-worthiness. However, if the person’s energies are invested into actions that are in line with his natural growth, maturity and refinement, he will always be pleased with his choices and, consequently, an endless sense of self-respect, self-love and self-acceptance will permeate his entire existence, thus, allowing him to find that magical space of peace and gratification where he feels that most powerful sensation of human existence, the feeling of being complete, that nothing is lacking and that everything is how it is supposed to be.
