It has long been questioned, in terms of the South African beer market, what constitutes a beer premium? It was said that any beer, again according to the South African beer market, contained in a green bottle is premium; but then it was argued that every beer sold in the market is premium — whether brown or green bottled. Regardless, South Africans favoured green as premium flavour. Then green was used as a marketing tactic to win over consumer attention. Over time, green became standard. As with laws of demand, the increase in income of the South African youth lead to a change in taste and demand , which meant more of that premiumness: Introducing Carling Blue Label.
