All Hail Insecurity
elan gale

I had a conversation with a close friend many years ago that ended with the conclusion, which we considered revelatory at the time, that insecurity is the root of all evil. How it tends to make people dishonest, selfish, oversensitive and phony. I still believe that to this day. Along with some of the other commenters here, I agree that perhaps the better term in this context is humility, which to me, encompasses some of the potentially positive aspects of insecurity, but without all the potentially horrible and dangerous distortions.
