Durant’s decision makes it painfully clear that it will always be the players who have to make “sacrifices,” never the owners.

That’s kind of silly. Did Steinbrenner “sacrifice” all that luxury tax money? Durant is buying something with a lot more marginal value to him than another $10M on top of the pile — a strong chance at more rings. Durant, like Brady, gets that. And in the long run giving up that money now might even be a net financial benefit.

Anyways, is anyone really pining for an NBA in which any random multi-billionaire can buy a championship ring by “sacrificing” enough money?
