How To Put Up With The Bullsh*t of Other People
The #1 Mistake That People Make When Dealing With People
Great relationships are one of the most fulfilling thing one can experience in one’s life. And, on the other hand, shitty relationships can be very destructive, very unfulfilling, very dramatic, and can cause a lot of pain and misery in one’s life.
Tim Ferriss has a saying : “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”, (which I think originally comes from Jim Rohn). We all want to be surrounded by great, aspiring people. But until then, we’re still surrounded by small, petty people. And getting up to that place isn’t easy.
So, how ?
People think that, somehow, their narrative justifies how their lives should unfold. This obviously affects every single area of their lives, but here we’re going to focus on how it affects their relationships.
What happens is very simple : We try to get stuff from people. Because we think that’s the only way to make a change in our lives.
The only issue is, it doesn’t work. But we do that out of resistance, as a lower-self mechanism. It’s much easier to say “They have to change in order for me to be happy”, than it is to admit “I have to change in order for me to be happy”.
It’s counter-intuitive and paradoxical. In order to change people, you gotta stop trying to change them, and start trying to change yourself. There’s the high-yield technique I’m looking for whenever I undertake an endeavor.
It’s emotionally hard. We don’t want to admit that we are responsible for it. It requires high EQ. And it’s gonna get lonely, and the results will come in a very very long time. But it’s really the only way to put up with their bullshit.
Sorry, but it’s time for you to GET TO WORK !
