I think the problem is somewhat alleviated with the advent of YouTube critics. It has been shown aggregate sites like metacritic and in the film world Rotten Tomatoes can be skewed by “brigading” for lack of a better term. Some subsets of culture can’t stand to think of the thing they like is rated poorly. Find a YouTube personality you trust, or a semi independent reviewer, and get the details from them before making a purchase. Also never buy day 1. You NEVER know what value proposition you are really getting if you buy something on release. Be a patient gamer. It will correct the excesses the industry seems to shovel on us. When a developer decides that a daily fetch quest makes “infinite hours of content” you should make sure that is not part of the experience, and punish the Developer for misleading you.
