We’re excited to continue our “Top 5 Local Restaurants” article series in the laid-back Tybee Island, GA. One of the most important decisions you make on vacation is where you’re going to eat. Our advice on identifying the best restaurants? Listen to the locals. We’ve compiled a list of 5 local-favorite restaurants in Tybee Island that cater to a variety of different tastes. Whether you choose to eat within your comfort zone or outside of it, these dining options will be sure to please.

Sundae Café

Tucked in between a liquor store and a gas station, Sundae Café is an unlikely suspect for one of the most upscale restaurants on the island. The romantic atmosphere makes Sundae Café the perfect place for a nice date, and the food is to die for. The name comes from the restaurant’s roots — once an ice cream deli, the restaurant is now famous for its succulent steak and seafood entrees. Stop in for lunch and dinner any day of the week, or head in on a weekday at lunchtime for their $10 lunch special. The Southern-inspired food is traditional with a twist — and the desserts and martinis are to-die-for.

The Breakfast Club

The nearby city of Savannah has been trying to claim The Breakfast Club as their own since 2012 when the restaurant was named “Best Breakfast in Savannah.” The doors open at 7AM every morning — no matter when you go, you’ll find a crowd of locals and visitors alike who know that there is no better breakfast in the area. With a giant menu boasting fresh omelettes, meats, french toast, burgers, and new specials added weekly, there are plenty of options to keep your hunger satisfied.

The Crab Shack

“Where the elite eat in their bare feet” — The Crab Shack’s catch phrase says it all! A fun, laid-back atmosphere combined with delicious seafood entrees makes The Crab Shack an island favorite. The restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, which offer a great view of the creek where the crabs are caught each day. The fresh seafood options are endless, and if you’re a meat lover, The Crab Shack offers BBQ ribs, roasted chicken, and more. Order a sandwich or treat yourself to a platter at this local favorite restaurant.

Tybee Island Social Club

Named one of the top ten bars in Georgia, Tybee Island Social Club is a popular evening spot. It’s also known for it’s Sunday “Bluegrass Brunch” which features live music and delicious eats. The ambiance is like none other — husband and wife duo Kurtis and Sarah Schumm, the owners of the restaurant, have roots in home design, art, and home restoration. Locals and vacationers alike love the made-from-scratch food. We recommend the pork belly tacos, but you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Make sure to stop by for drinks at happy hour!

North Beach Bar & Grill

If you’re looking for a casual meal with a great view, visit North Beach Bar & Grill on the north side of the island. The Caribbean-inspired menu includes local favorites like fish tacos, jerk chicken, and crab cakes. They also offer burgers, hot dogs, and the like: classic options for less adventurous eaters. You won’t be disappointed by the desserts, either — the in house bakery specializes in cakes & pies, and even caters to local weddings. The restaurant often hosts live entertainment in their outdoor area. A laid-back vibe with delicious view makes North Beach Bar & Grill a favorite of locals and visitors alike.
