Big Phones; Small Phones

It’s just a fad holding the helm for the size of our beloved smartphones. Remember that … back to 2006 prior the iPhone’s birth, manufacturers were putting efforts to make cellphones as small as possible. Do you remember the LG lipstick style cellphone? Not only LG but all the cellphone makers were doing the same which is making those tiny adorable cellphones which … we tended to lose a lot since … it’s just too hard to notice if you have them in your pocket or not.

Phones Are (Were) Getting Bigger

If you still have the original iPhone or the Nexus One which should be recognized as the first real “smart” android phone on the market, you would be amazed by the size … it’s just super tiny compared with our current smartphone trend.

Smartphones Trend (size) is Changing Again

After holding the iPhone X for the past 2 weeks, we do believe that the trend of the size of the smartphones is shifting back towards compact and small size again. Although it’s not going to be as small as we had before (e.g., 3.5" as the original iPhone has), it’s not going to be as gigantic as the iPhone 6 Plus, 7 Plus, and 8 Plus currently have. The size of the iPhone X is comfortable to hold even though it owns 5.8" display.

Let’s put iPhone X next to the iPhone 8 Plus. Also … iPhone X vs S8 and Note 8… you can see the significant size advantage that iPhone X has over all those phones. Sure the display size that iPhone X has is smaller than the Note 8 but … it’s just 0.5" difference which you might not even notice when you use it. Even if you do, trust us you will be happy about the trade off you have to get the comfort that you have from owning the iPhone X over the Note 8.

But … It’s Still Big That is Hard To Reach To the Top

Even though the iPhone X is way smaller than its “plus” version predecessors, it’s still a big phone which is hard to reach to the top of the screen using only one hand. So … since the home button has been removed from the iPhone X, the “reachability” feature is gone with it, right? Well… do you think that the almighty Apple design team forgot to take this into account?

Turn On the “Reachability” Freature on iPhone X

1) Go to "Settings" -> "General"
2) Tap "Accessibility"
3) Find and enable the "Reachability"

Or

1) Click "Settings" and type "Reachability" on the search field located on the top
2) Tap & Enable it

How To Use It?

Since iPhone X is all gesture based, it’s a bit tricker when you first start using it. However, after you know how to do it, it’s just super intuitive and easy to use. Thanks to the superior Apple design team.

If you wanna activate the “reachability”, simply swipe down within the area of the apps dock located in the bottom. Remember that if you swipe down from other areas on the screen, you will activate iOS search feature. This is the tricky part we mentioned. So … as long as you swipe down in the Apps Dock area, the reachability feature will be activated.

Now you know how to enable and use the reachability feature on your shiny beautiful iPhone X, you can go ahead and use it in one hand. Trust us, A LOT OF PEOPLE will envy you when they see you using only one hand enjoying your shiny brand new smartphone effortlessly 🙂
