A mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is a reseller for wireless communications services. An MVNO leases wireless capacity (in effect, purchases “minutes”) from a third-party mobile network operator (MNO) at wholesale prices and resells it to consumers at reduced retail prices under its own business brand. Today, I’ll be telling you my top 10 MVNO picks.

10. Google Fi

Google Fi definitely has some good plans, but in my opinion, not including taxes and other fees in your plan as a MVNO that is as popular as Easter in April, isn’t a good idea. Below are the cell plans they offer:

9. Red Pocket

Red Pocket has a bunch of plans suited for everyone, from Monthly to Yearly plans. They also have family plans, business plans, and data only plans. Now, you’re probably wondering why I’ve listed Red Pocket number 9 in this list. Red Pocket has a lot of plans, that’s great, but not for someone who plans on getting a plan and having to go through multiple hoops to finally switch over. Red Pocket uses the Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile network for coverage. (Dish Wireless may be added in the future) Each data plan Red Pocket offers are on different networks, and so for a non-tech savvy or non phone plan geek like I am, you may be stuck trying to figure out how to switch and which is which. I will not be listing all the cell plans they offer, but if you are interested, you can click here.

8. Metro by T-Mobile

Metro by T-Mobile or MetroPCS (formerly) was and still is a great carrier with many perks. I have used Metro before and my experience was, for the most part, subpar. Like many others, I found myself constantly having to either call or send tweets online to get my issues resolved. I always had to call in to switch my SIM from one phone to the next and I always had to call in because the coverage map was incorrect and I didn’t get service where the map had indicated there would be cell service. Regardless, they offer some nice cell plans with a lot of perks. Below are the cell plans they offer:

7. Boost Mobile

Boost Mobile is one of the only carriers I know that have been handed off over and over again. Regardless, they offer some pretty good cell plans on the AT&T network. Yes, you read that right, on the AT&T network. Boost Mobile was on the T-Mobile network because of the merger between T-Mobile and Sprint, but as of 2022, Dish Wireless has now switched Boost Mobile over to the AT&T network because of a contract disagreement with T-Mobile. Below are the cell plans they offer:

6. Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile is…. well, Ryan Reynolds. All you really have to know about Mint Mobile is that it’s owned by Ryan Reynolds and he’s a cool guy. Ok, but for real, the data plans they offer are amazing. It’s one of the best MVNOs on the T-Mobile network and they offer amazing prices on data plans. Plus, Ryan Reynolds occasionally leaves voicemails, isn’t that a AMAZING perk?! Below are the cell plans they offer:

5. Walmart Family Mobile

Honestly, the last thing I would believe coming out of anyone’s mouth is that Walmart has their own cell plans. But, it’s true and what surprised me was the prices for the plans they offer. The plans they offer aren’t bad, it’s just the prices that really surprise me. I would definely recommend US Mobile or Mint Mobile over Walmart Family Mobile if you’re considering the 2GB, 5GB, or 20GB data plans. Below are the cell plans they offer:

4. Ting Mobile

Ting Mobile runs on both the Verizon and T-Mobile network. The plans they offer are good for data conscious people, but not so good for those looking for unlimited data plans. Regardless, they offer really good plans. Below are the cell plans they offer:

3. Visible

Visible is Verizon’s “secret” cell plan that offers truly unlimited data for only $25 a month. Visible is a all new Gen Z focused MVNO that offers truly unlimited for a very low price. I’ve used Visible for 2 years now, and have not had any issues at all. Below is Visible compared to the rest of the competition:

2. TracFone

TracFone is one of the best MVNOs when it comes to plans and the networks they use. Yes, I will complain because of the number of networks and different plans they offer, but this time it’s different since TracFone doesn’t sell 100 of the same plan on eBay like Red Pocket does. TracFone currently still uses the Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile network as far as I know. This may change as currently Verizon owns TracFone. Below are some of the cell plans they offer:

1. US Mobile

US Mobile offers cell phone plans on both the Verizon and T-Mobile networks, but refers to them as the Super LTE (Verizon) and GSM LTE (T-Mobile). I’ve used US Mobile before and can vouch for how good their plans are. They have a whole variety of plans depending on what you want and also offer some great unlimited plans. They currently offer priority data on the Super LTE side, so if you don’t want to be slowed down by congestion, you might want to consider this plan. Below are some of the cell plans they offer:
