Creative, Silly, Persevering.

Meet Stormy Jackson, a rising sophomore at the University of Southern California. Stormy has been working as a mobile UI/UX designer at Playfull, a company that engages restaurant customers with mobile games to win food. She has a huge personality and enjoys everything from Mexican food to spreading positive vibes. Her name is inspired by the character Storm from X-Men. During her time as a fellow, she has spent her lunches in LA eating at LACMA and she hopes to dive into as many of her own projects as possible during the summer.

What inspired you to explore startups and join a small company?

I wanted to work for a startup is because I like having the ability to take on a variety of tasks at once. My job title is a Mobile Design Intern, however, I’ve had adopt new skills such as marketing and photography since the challenges and ideas of the company are constantly changing. It has led me to take on a lot of responsibility which has greatly enhanced my career opportunities in the future.

What’s excites you most about working in LA?

Having the opportunity to work in Silicon Beach is amazing. I get to spend every day in downtown LA eating lunch at LACMA. Instead of working in a cubicle, I get to sit at a spacious open room overlooking Los Angeles bouncing off ideas with my coworkers. I even get to meet some of the brightest people working in the tech industry and being able to interact with them serves as an affirmation to me that LA is my home.

What’s your favorite (non-work related) thing about LA?

I like that there’s a lot of interesting places I can go to. I’ve been to a few cat and dog cafes, outdoor concerts, and book signings that I just came across on accident. There’s even places like the Museum of Ice Cream and dessert festivals to check out.

What do you hope to get from this fellowship?

I hope to add onto the additional skill set that I currently have by diving into as many new projects as I can throughout my internship. I also aim to expand my network with other like-minded professionals in the tech industry.

What are your goals for the next 5 years?

I hope to have experience in working at both startups and larger, established companies so I can learn what kind of environment works best for me. I’d also like to experiment in different areas of technology like augmented and digital reality.

Describe a perfect day in your life.

A perfect day in my life would be waking up right before noon, starting the day by eating waffles, eggs and bacon, and drinking a large glass of apple juice.
