How many people’s opinions actually have a significant influence on your life? Seriously. Take a few minutes to really think about it. How many people actually have a say in your life? I’m not talking about just having something to say. There are hundreds of those kinds of people. I’m talking about people whose opinions have an actual, real world affect on your life. Think about it. I bet you’ll discover that the number of people who actually have a meaningful affect on your life is far smaller than you may originally have thought.
We worry so much about what other people think, and it’s crazy. Why? Why do we allow the opinions of other people to affect the way we live our lives? Why do we allow their opinions to have any influence at all? It’s not their life. It’s ours!
If people want to have opinions, they can have opinions about their own lives. We give so much power to people who do not, in any way, deserve to have a single ounce of power over us and the way we live our lives.
All that should matter is that you are happy with the life you call yours. If you are happy with the way you’re living your life, why give someone else the right to have a say in it? Even if you’re not happy with the way you’re living your life right now, you’re the only one that can change the course you’re on, so why give anyone else a say?
There’s a BIG difference between seeking advice from people you respect, and allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry to have any influence over what you do, what you say, how you dress or where where you go.
When we care about the opinions of others, we give them power over our lives. Power they should not have, and certainly don’t deserve.
Focus on what matters to you. Care about how YOU feel about your life. The ONLY opinion that matters when it comes to your life is yours, because it’s YOUR life. Stop giving a damn about what other people think. Your life is not their life. We should all just concentrate and worry about our own lives.
If someone feels they’re important enough to have a significant say in your life, get them as far away from you as you can. But whatever you do, do not allow their opinions to have any affect on your life or the way you live it. When we start allowing people’s opinions to make changes in our lives, we end up becoming an amalgamation of everyone else’s opinions, and that does nothing but lead us away from who we really are and who we want to be.
So, if people want to have opinions about any area of YOUR life, tell them to focus on their own. Nobody but you should decide what you do, what you say, where you go, how you dress, or how you should be living your life. Take that power away from them, and return it to its rightful owner - you!
