I can bet the author never thought or estimated such a backlash from the people who commented. The author must have thought people would lap up this idea and he would be a star in the circles for a few days. But alas, that was not to be. Its very interesting to observe that the article does not say, in any place, that not a single open source software company, may be a Linux for an exception, makes any money. All the likes of HortonWorks etc., are struggling. Open source is certainly a great way to write and collaborate, however, not to make money. People at the end need money and that comes from commercial software. But yes, the author is indeed correct saying that even the commercial software now is actually very open. Though the impact of Git may be self serving for the author or the author may be using Git to potentially recruit people, but its a difficult argument to sustain.
