Toy Maker Mattel is to partner itself in association with San Francisco start up Toy Talk to develop the ‘Hello Barbie’. This digital toy is designed in such a way that it can have a two-way conversation with kids. The toy is also featured to tell kids stories and jokes. The gorgeous doll is to use a speech recognition interface developed by Toy Talk.

The doll will connect to WiFi via a microphone and a speaker. The microphone, speaker and two LEDSs are to be embedded in the doll’s necklace .the legs are equipped to be loaded with rechargeable batteries. There is also a external wall mounted charger attached to the legs. Hello Barbie records the child’s words. After recording the words it is encoded and sent to the Central processor of Toy Talk. The Barbie doll will be able to converse two-way with children by transmitting the recorded audio. The response is sent to back to the device with fraction of second. This enables a quick natural two way conversation. The toy is also capable of sending e-mails to the parents about all the conversations it had with the kid.

Security Issues of Hello Barbie

There will be certain security issues that Hello Barbie has to address. Security concerns raised by people at large is the huge amount of personal data that will be connected on the servers. Parents will be notified about the type of classified data that Hello Barbie will collect. The access to data in Toy Talk will also require a password authentication. Parents can thereafter log on to the Web interface. The stored messages can be deleted after they have been stored else where. The account can also be cancelled. Toy Talk assures that the data will be erased permanently.

Cost and Release Date of Hello Barbie

The Digital Barbie is expected to release around the end of 2015. Hello Barbie is expected to be sold at 74.99$.
