Dell Advances Circular Economy Model for IT Industry By Recycled Carbon Fiber
Dell takes an environment-friendly measure to recycle carbon fiber.
Dell has taken a measure to safeguard the environment. The Texas-based enterprise has recently announced added development against its spherical economy plans; including the growth of its closed-loop reprocessed plastic supply chain, new industrial partnerships and international circular practices, and introduction of regained carbon-fiber source materials.
Dell collaborated with vendor, SABIC, to reprocess scrap raw materials and extra carbon fiber into the device manufacturer’s new gadgets introduced in the latter part of 2015. Firstly, specific Alienware and Latitude devices would comprise of reprocessed carbon fiber, with proposals to grow across these two device portfolios next year.
Dell news affirmed PC maker has estimated that by collaborating with the vendor, it would succeed in preventing 820,000 pounds of carbon fiber from being a part of landfills. The secondhand carbon fiber components have almost 11% less carbon footprint than merely utilizing virgin carbon fiber.
Since the company initiated the process of developing its closed-loop reprocessed plastics supply-chain in January 2014, it reprocessed 4,200,000 pounds of bolted-loop plastics into inclusions for its newly designed devices. These materials were utilizing three Dell OptiPlex desktops and more than 30 flat panel monitor models available internationally, with proposals to carry out scaling through servers and further devices next year.
The company’s procedure was authorized by UL Environment as the primary closed-loop supply-chain, and pursues to become the first in the industrial sector. It succeeded in cutting down its product carbon footprint through the closed-loop devices by 11% and realized cost reductions over earlier sources.

Dell financial service reported that the company has previously been awarded for its environment-friendly measures as the Green Electronics Council gave it the “2015 Catalyst Award” on September 23, to appreciate its leadership in closed-loop plastics manufacturing. The Catalyst Awards are presented to globally celebrate highly advanced solutions and physical environmental achievements throughout the lifespan of electrical technologies.
The organization also proclaimed that it has participated in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Circular Economy 100 program to team up with similar enterprises and sectors to promote their circular plan.
