Techweek Ten: Rebekah Keida, Techweek

Techweek Ten is an intimate look into the daily lives of tech’s most prominent personalities. Sit in as we explore the intersection of nostalgia, habits, and tech with industry leaders.

Rebekah Keida is the VP of Founders House at Techweek. Her role involves curating the Founders House guest list as well as handling operations for the event.

Without further ado…

1) What was the first piece of technology you fell in love with?
The moment that I saw Jurassic Park, I was hooked on computers and being a hacker. I have been frugal ever since childhood, so much so that I would bring all of my savings with me wherever I went. At 7 years old, I had saved up a few hundred bucks for a laptop before losing it all at a Target. My mom felt so guilty that she bought me my first black Compaq computer for Christmas that year. I had it long before internet had permeated the home. It was awesome.

2) What’s on the lock screen of your phone?

My lock screen is a picture that National Geographic captured of an art installation at Burning Man in 2014. The trees that the people are sitting under actually respond to touch and glow to the person’s heartbeat. Seeing this picture solidified my commitment to attending Burning Man in 2015 with Techweek.

3) What’s the oldest email in your inbox?
My last email in my personal gmail is from 2006 when I was using Craigslist to find a place to live in NYC for the summer. Thank goodness for AirBnB!

4) What was the last thing you bought online?
I bought a talking My Little Pony on Amazon for one of our Techweek’s partners daughters, “Pulga.”

5) What’s your guilty pleasure click-bait reading?
Justin Bieber.

6) What’s the last song you played on your phone?
Sail a Whale. Such a good band from Sweden!

7) Who (dead or alive) would you most like to hear interviewed on a podcast?
Oh no this is too hard of a question! I am torn between Bernarr MacFadden, the father of physical fitness, and Ed Bernays, the father of Public Relations. Probably Ed Bernays because I am interested in his long term vision for humanity. To maintain post war growth rates, Bernays changed American’s from need based consumers into constant consumers. What next?

8) What was the last show you binge-watched?
Bakemonogatari! It is a super awesome Japanese anime show by Aniplex that one of my coworkers recommended. I LOVE IT.

9) When are you most offline?
When I go for a long, long run. Or when we decide to take 65 tech founders to Havana, Cuba for 3 days and there is no cell or internet service.

10) Finally, the toughest question of all: Pick a GIF that best reflects your personality!

There you have it! Feel free to post questions or comments! Emaileditors@techweek.com if you know an individual fitted for the Ten!
