Every WrestleMania Main Event, Ranked from Worst to Best

If you want to trace the history and progression of the WWE, watching every single WrestleMania main event is a great place to start (as I learned, it’s also a great way to annoy your girlfriend). Rock ’n’ Wrestling, Hulkamania, the New Generation, the Attitude Era, the Brand Split, the PG era — it’s all here. Well, that and a few terrible Sid matches.

Here, in my humble opinion, is a comprehensive ranking of each and every WrestleMania headliner. After each match, as a counterbalance, I’ve included the star rating (out of five) of Dave Meltzer, noted wrestling journalist and historian. 33. WrestleMania XI: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Lawrence Taylor

Is this actually the worst main event in Mania history? Sadly, no. Lawrence Taylor, although far from polished, at leasts puts in more effort than the likes of Sid and King Kong Bundy. But, while most WrestleManias have a dumb celebrity match like this, the WWF was so lowly and talent-starved in 1995 as to use it as a headliner (WrestleMania I gets a free pass because nothing on that show really holds up from a modern perspective — at that point, there was no legacy for them to tarnish). They should have put this second-to-last in a “special attraction” spot and let Diesel vs. Shawn…
