“I’m really looking forward to, not more of the same, but a continual growth.” Ben Harper

There are no excuses for you to better yourself. You have unlimited resources available to you on the screen right in front of you. The last few months I decided to try out skillshare.com (Get 3 months for just $0.99).

In my SSS (Sunday Self Study) I decided to look into the science of Facebook Ads.

So what makes a good Facebook Ad?

It has two main components:

  1. Great design
  2. Targeted to the right audience

Today we focused on #1, great design.

Before you decide to close this lesson because you can’t draw, let me tell you that neither can I. This lesson has nothing to do with graphic design, it’s focused on the structure of the post.

Facebook Ad Review:

1. Lets look at a link Ad:

Why is this a good Ad?

  1. Eye-Catching Image: Single face and eye contact. Smile (positive emotion). Flash of red.
  2. Call to Action: the message is clear “Shop Now”
  3. Link: it shows you what they offer.

2. Headlines:

The most popular headline length is just 4 words!

Good practices:

  1. Tight Headline
  2. Clear language directed to your audience.
  3. Make sure that your clear message can appeal your audience, for example, a benefit driven language: “Become a graphic designer”

3. Post & Description:

Clear text attracts your audience to the Ad and lets them click through to wherever you want to send them.

Good practices:

  1. Keep post text short. Show exactly what you are promoting.
  2. Description uses a longer format and must tempt the user into learning more about your offering. Keep it at a point where they know exactly what is but they need to click through to keep on finding out more.

4. Words:

What words do you think are the most captivating?

You guessed it! Free is one of them.

Free: Guaranteed to catch the eye.

Now: creates a sense of scarcity and pushes to immediate action.

New: shows what makes you different and fresh.

You/your: The human brain is activated when we think of ourselves.

5. Links:

Where are you leading your audience?

Two thirds of all Facebook Ads include a link to drive people to their website.

Depending on the type of Ad, you will need to figure out what you need to link up. Is it your website? A landing page? Remember your wording! Use a combination of positive and popular words to get them to click on that link,.

6. Call to Action:

Including a CTA (Call to Action) in your Ad makes it really easy for the user to click on it so that you can trigger whatever it is you want from them.

Data shows that the top CTAs are:

  1. Sign Up
  2. Learn More
  3. Shop Now

The CTA really depends on what you are offering and what you want people to do. Get creative, try out different buttons and measure your results.
