10 Times Food Took Over 90’s Cartoons
Oh the 90’s. For many millennials, cartoons were kind of a big deal. Maybe I’m a little biased, but I might say we enjoyed some of the best childhood cartoons ever created. Food being the universal medium that it is, played a big role in many of our childhood TV memories. Today I want to take a walk down memory lane and reminisce on some of my favorite food memories from the 90's.
#1 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Cowabunga Dude! The most classic is of course The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and they’re undying love of pizza. Can we really blame them? The older I get, the more I can relate with their pizza addiction.
#2 Rocko’s Modern Life
Who remembers the Chokey Chicken from Rocco’s Modern Life. A classic play on KFC, this favorite fried chicken spot of Heffers went through a name change in season 4 due to a not so subtle innuendo in the name. I’ll let you look that on up on your own….
# 3 Dexter’s Laboratory
Omelette du fromage — I still think about this episode all of the time. When the phrase makes Dexter an instant celebrity, gah that is great. It makes me want to yell Omelett du fromage at the top of my lungs!
Doug overcoming his fear of Liver and Onions, only to find out that he actually kinda likes it. Certainly an impactful episode of my youth. We all learned to try new things because you never know what you are going to like. Also, here a link to Killer Tofu by Doug and The Beets.
#5 Hey Arnold
Oh poor Chocolate Boy, always eating chocolate. Probably one of the first entirely food based cartoon characters I knew, this kid loved him some chocolate. Some call it obsession, others call it their significant other, no judgement here.
#6 Angry Beavers
Oh man, Angry Beavers is the best! These two lovable creatures explored the ins and outs of brotherhood in the beaver den. The lickety split episode had me contemplating whether or not I wanted to eat a log. I may or may not still have a splinter in my cheek.
#7 The Powerpuff Girls
While the Powerpuff Girls did not necessarily help our parents raise healthy young children, they did prove my theory that broccoli comes from space and is trying to destroy the planet. How does one defeat evil space broccoli? You must eat it of course.
I do not like Angelica or the way she steals all of the junk food for herself. I hope she gets a stomach ache.
#9 Pepper Ann
I bet you can still sing the theme song to Pepper Ann in your head. Is she lame, is she cool, is she breaking every rule, is she anybody’s fool, Pepper Ann. I don’t really know what this taco bit is about, I just wanted to include this cartoon. Theme Song
#10 Ed, Edd n Eddy
Finally, Ed, Edd n Eddy. I’m just going to leave this right here.
