I have a problem with this theory. Using “big words” means that someone will not understand you. But? Are we simplifying our speech? Or dumbing down ourselves.

I dunno.

I often use “big words”. I’ve been called out for it on many occasions, told I need to “simplify” my language…

And I have a problem with that… I think we all need to grow. To learn. To stretch ourselves.

Grammarly tells me I have a better vocabulary than 90% of its users. Does that mean that I should not expect others to try to understand what I’m saying..? I don’t get that.

Words are, for a writer, our keys to communicating what we’re feeling. If I have to stop, every time, to simplify my language? I’ll never get anything done.

I dunno. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this is why I feel so blocked. Maybe I do need to simplify my speech. Maybe not.

Blah.
