6 Marketing Resolutions to Consider for the New Year
As I sat at my desk earlier this month working on my marketing plan for the new year, I started jotting down ideas for this post — what sort of things should you resolve to do more of for your business in 2019?
Many of the marketing goals I’ve set for myself for the coming year would serve any small business owner well, including professional speakers and coaches. I’m going to share six of my 2019 marketing goals with you.
Read more books. I’m an avid reader, but I’d like to do even more reading this year. Specifically, I resolve to read more business books. My favorite reads of 2018 were The Morning Miracle, by Hal Elrod, and Permission Marketing, by Seth Godin. Next on my list is This is Marketing: You Can’t Be Seen Until You Learn to See, by Seth Godin. I’d love to hear your favorite reads of 2018, so please leave your business book recommendations in the comments!
Write more. How much writing are you currently doing for your business? Good content is still important — maybe even more important — in today’s marketing world. Think about blogging more, sending more newsletters, writing an eBook, or maybe it’s time to put your own book in the world? It’s a fresh new year, make some big goals and share your own big ideas.
Attend more in person events. I want to travel to more conventions and conferences this year. I also want to attend more local networking events and I urge you to do the same. Getting yourself in front of people is always a great way to make meaningful new connections, and I want to do more of it. You should, too! After all, you never know where your next keynote or big client might come from.
Bring your social media into 2019. Even if you’re already active on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms, are you making the most of all their features? Are you doing live videos on your Facebook Page, updating your Instagram Stories, and using the Twitter Moments feature? No matter how much you’re doing, you can always do a little bit more. But don’t get overwhelmed. Maybe just add one thing to your list to try this month, and then when you’ve gotten used to that, try something else. On that note…
Update your marketing plan. It’s a new year and that means it’s the perfect time to dust off your marketing plan and update it for 2019. What’s in that plan that’s been working well? What hasn’t been working? What did you not get around to yet? The start of a new year is a wonderful time to set new marketing goals, and make some updates to your plan.
Add to your team. I’ve already started to identify areas I’d like to have more help with, so I’m re-evaluating my current team, and considering what additional team members I might need to serve my clients better. If you’re a speaker or coach (yes, I’ve said this many times before) and you’re trying to do everything on your own, you aren’t doing yourself any favors! Consider making this the year you finally start to delegate tasks and just wait and see the fabulous new position you’ll be in next year.
Those are a few of the marketing goals I’ve made for myself for 2019. I’d love to hear what goals you’re setting for your business this year, so please leave a comment and let me know!
