How To Capitalize on The Power of Explainer Videos!

Want to add video to your marketing strategy, but don’t know where to start? Why not start with an explainer video?

If you don’t know what an explainer video is, let me explain ;)

It’s a short, fun and informative video typically 2–3 minutes long. These short, “how to” or instructional videos are perfect for both physical and digital products. Whether your video is about your new and improved can opener, or how to install and set up your newest digital product or plugin, an explainer video is a great way to get in front of your target audience to strut your stuff and show off your wares.

I wrote an entire post about how to create explainer videos that get results, but in a nutshell, some of the key points to a good explainer video are:

  • Short. 2–3 minutes is optimal
  • Light and often fun to watch
  • Scripted and planned out
  • Focused on benefits instead of features
  • Simple and straight-forward

For service based companies, you might use an explainer video to show new members how to navigate your membership platform or latest online course. You can also use an explainer video to show why your ABC product is better or easier to use than someone else’s XYZ product. If a client or someone on Facebook or in a group asks how to do something, why not record a quickie video to show them how? There are lots of different ways you can use these short but educational videos to market your products and services. And, depending on the product/service, your audience and the purpose of your video, they can be professionally polished and produced videos, or quick and dirty “here’s how you do it” videos.

While my learning style leans more to reading than watching videos, I’m a big fan of watching short “how to” and instructional videos!
