All about Teylah

Firstly it’s T-LA, in case you were wondering (haha) :-)
I am a 26yr old Aboriginal women. I descend from Kuku Yalanji and Jiman people. I am married to an amazing man of God, Jesse; who descends from Barunggam people. I am a mother to 2 incredible little girls, Aliyah & Eva who keep the days busy.
I currently live in Brisbane, QLD; but am from Mackay and Townsville, QLD. This year I begun my Bachelor of Education (Primary) journey. Along with this my eldest, Aliyah had just begun her schooling journey also. So in her first week of Prep I flew to Sydney to begin an away-from-base study option. Full of anxiety and tears that I couldn’t seem to shake, I’d done it! I made it through my first Semester, my hard work paid off and slowly but surely the tears are becoming less frequent.
Though I still have a long road ahead, the learning never stops. I am continually surprising myself. Today we have begun COMM140 (Technology). eek!! I struggle when my phone updates and I can no longer work my apps! hahaha
Although I suck when it comes to technology, I am very excited to learn, in order to be the best teacher possible. I especially can’t wait to learn how to create a game! Cool right! I know Aliyah and my nephew Tyrese will definitely think so :-D
Coolest mum/aunty awards goes to..? me right?! haha
I’ve always loved little children and always said I’d love to be a primary school teacher. I just never took the steps to do so. Now that I am, I am so happy and grateful for the opportunity.
I want to work in public schools. I have little cousins from hard homes and see plenty of hard homes within the community I live in. I hope to be one positive person in the lives of those children. I hope to aspire them to be different than the lives that surround them. I want them to dream big and believe they can change and hope for more. If I can instil positivity and hope into their lives from a young age, maybe they will see change in their future.
I currently work in Brisbane Christian College where I am surrounded by teachers who are passionate about empowering young lives. I am excited to learn from them and become that passionate myself.
Overall I am excited about this journey, totally missing my family but know the it’s well worth it in the end. I can’t wait to empower young lives.
