Minty Fresh — Edition 54
Tune in each week for the freshest mints from across the Tezos #CleanNFT ecosystem.
Welcome to Edition 54 of Minty Fresh, the weekly source of fresh and minty NFTs from the amazing Tezos ecosystem. This week’s secret word is “human.” Lately, we’ve focused on nature, scientific phenomena, abstract concepts — but this time it’s good ol’ mankind. Each of the digital artworks listed below focus on human subjects, depicting our physical forms, our relationships with others, and even questioning what it means to be human in the first place. So read on for some gorgeous humanity recently minted on Objkt, fx (hash), Teia, and Kalamint.
If you ever get close to a human
And human behaviour
Be ready, be ready to get confused
1. Self portrait #1 Behind the illusions
“…Me and colorful dreams.”
Let’s start off with this abstract, vivid self-portrait from multi-media artist Minook. This collage-inspired generative art release consists of 47 iterations that rely on the elements of a flower, a sunset, and a close-up portrait of the artist. Through this generative structure, Minook shows the seeming “randomness” of being. Her selfhood could be expressed in a myriad of ways, given the right code. Check it out on fx(hash).
2. Substitute
“‘No man is irreplaceable.’ Someone will surely come to take your place.”
This photo-realistic 1/1 artwork from Pipita is a chilling, yet captivating, portrait of the relationship between (wo)man and machine. On one side of the image, an elderly woman stares directly at the viewer, a stern, wise look on her face. Right beside her, her AI doppelgänger looms over, ready to, as the description notes, “come take her place.” Discover this work on Objkt.
3. Portrait of a Young Woman
“In this painting I wanted to express my inner woman…”
This Cubist portrait was created, in fact, by a computer that mints art under the name Caedmon. A new CAEDM token is produced every day mixing the artwork produced by the bot on the previous day with the most liked/retweeted artwork shared on twitter with the hashtag #ArtByCaedmon. This portrait is thus not just a computer’s understanding of femininity, but also the result of a social network’s collective power. It certainly gives us some food for thought on how gender is constructed in this digital age. Find out more on Kalamint.
4. Me and my Psychologist I Watashi to watashi no shinri gakusha I 私と私の心理学者
“This is an artwork about the helping and interconnected relationship between a Psychologist and his patient.”
This vibrant work from generative and crypto artist Richard Nadler captures a scene between a psychologist and a patient, perhaps one of the most unique human relationships to form in modern times. The striking colors give this moment almost a cartoonist feeling. Paired with the literal morphing of the two figures’ bodies, there is a tension between this relationship being highly intimate but also… artificial? Check it out on Objkt.
5. Still
“Other worlds, 2022”
This looping video work from Istanbul-based artist Etruğrul Yaka, shows a solitary figure standing in a marshy area, with a fabric over their face, blowing in the wind. It is as hypnotizing as it is mysterious, and if you read the fabric blowing as an untied hijab, the video takes on even more meaning. Watch the video and come to your own conclusions on Teia.
6. Equipoise
“…this is an exploration in posture, in figure, and in motion.”
Lastly, we leave you with this meditative work from crypto artist Rare, from their series Experiments in Posture. The artist created a set of digital paintings based on AI assisted reference photos of people in various poses. The figures are also purposely incomplete, inviting the viewer to fill in the blank spaces and imagine their own unique characters. Find this work and more from the Experiments in Posture series on Objkt.
