Tezos Gitcoin “NFT me, you can DAO it” Hackathon Prize Winners — $75,000 tez in Prizes

The Tezos Gitcoin “NFT me, you can DAO it” Hackathon was announced on July 23, with a total of $75,000 in prizes in tez (XTZ) spread among 10 winning submissions. The hackathon came alongside the announcement of Gitcoin integrating Tezos into their developer platform.

The winners of the month-long Tezos Gitcoin “NFT me, you can DAO it” Hackathon encouraged participants to expand on current primitives in the Tezos ecosystem for NFTs and DAOs. The “NFT Me, You Can DAO It” Hackathon was the first of eight Tezos hackathons over the next two years on Gitcoin with a range of prizes for winners.

First prize ($15,000 tez) went to Tezcrowd by @timongty

Tezcrowd is an MVP prototype of a crowdfunding smart contract comprising both the Flexible (Keep-It-All) crowdfunding model and the Fixed (All-Or-Nothing) crowdfunding model. Tezcrowd delivered well-structured documentation, an MVP, and a compelling roadmap for future development.

From trading cards, artwork, and limited-edition albums from well-known artists, NFTs have exploded in popularity over the past few months. This has opened the floodgates for a new type of brand-storytelling and consumer-interaction that was previously impossible.

Tezos’ low energy consumption and low gas fees are one of the many reasons why it is quickly becoming recognized as the best, most responsible place to mint, host, and trade clean NFT’s. Because Tezos doesn’t consume vast amounts of energy to secure itself, it doesn’t suffer from the inflationary pressure experienced by other cryptocurrencies.

Hackathon participants were encouraged to combine the exploding NFT scene with new use cases for DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations). The Tezos community of creators and builders recognizes DAOs as a critical part of the development of the ecosystem. DAOs can help implement governance of decentralized applications and formalize decentralized, community organization.

Gitcoin is a community developing digital public goods, creating financial freedom, and defining the future of the open web. They announced earlier this summer an integration with Tezos that would kickstart bounties on the platform for development projects including infrastructure, tooling, and applications that support the Tezos ecosystem.

The ongoing support for Tezos builders and the announcement of the winners of the first of eight hackathons demonstrates Gitcoin’s commitment to unlocking new opportunities for the global, open-source Gitcoin community to build on one of the original and longest running Proof of Stake blockchains.

Thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations to all the prize winners. Stay tuned for hackathons in the near future!
