I love your description of music as sound. It seems that we get so used to the sounds going on around us that we forget to even pay attention. While reading this I actually thought about all of the sounds going on around me and started listening to someone count change. I also agree with your reasoning behind popular music. Everyone just conforms to the social norms and never even tries to think for themselves.
