Thai Lottery is operated by the Government Lottery Office (GLO). The GLO started in 1874. This was when the first lottery tickets were issued to mark the birthday of King Rama V. The lottery office was set up and its first director was appointed and because the original number of tickets sold was relatively low, the prize payout was also limited.

In 1934, lottery operations started being organized again under the Government’s Revenue Department as a way to collect funds. The lottery began its climb to its popularity, and a peak was achieved in 1944. In 1974, the number of tickets printed per year went up to 180 million, and in just one year, the circulation increased even further to 252 million tickets!
