Empty Room

Hello my producer friends, songwriters, people of similar interest. When we first start out an idea to a song, the idea usually resembles an empty room in a house. There’s nothing at first but white walls and carpet if you’re lucky. We’ve managed to successfully built a structure of walls, floors, and ceilings, but the room still feels quite empty. If we are truthful, the music we’ve arranged and the songs we’ve written don’t convey the emotional pull that it should. Have we truly placed ourselves in our audience’s shoes? Forget faders, mixing techniques, or EQ settings, for they all are important in due time, but does your idea truly touch the soul? Does it resonate? Could your arrangement have “empty room syndrome”? Regardless of the questions, it is left up to us to fill this room. Give your song the depth and dimension it needs. Make the song make sense. Start filling your room with furniture.
