Aronofsky purposefully made a biblical allegory, but he accidentally made a movie about the egomania of male artists. All of mother’s suffering was directly caused by her playwright husband, his merciless exploitation of her in the name of his artistic development, his prioritization of his own self actualization over her basic needs. A CHSF is, at least in part, an expression of a guilty male conscious.

I definitely got that vibe from “Mother.” The movie, to me, was so disturbing because it felt like its creator was trying to excise his own unexamined guilt.
