I am reminded of the Southwest, my favorite part of the United States, especially Colorado,and Boulder; the magical sacredness of the mountains and nature, especially at night. The full moon, the sweetness of the air, the sweat lodge, the smell of the fire as it burns, the silence, the big sky full of stars. It is a place of healing that I miss. Thank You.

This is a valid topic, but I don’t think Kawabata and Beauty and Sadness is the right subject for this line of inquiry because, exactly as you said, you’re reading the book in English translation; English may be a very flexible language, but it is not as subtle as Japanese. What Kawabata means and what we understand may be a matter of how good the translation is. I hope you continue writing about this.
