Why are you an entrepreneur?

I’ve always been an entrepreneur. When I was in my twenties I had my own children’s entertainment business where I dressed up as the tooth fairy and made tooth fairy kits for children and parents to explore magic, wonder and a little bit of fairy dust. I like working for myself, and I’m not a 9 to 5 person. I was also a flight attendant for 18 years and you don’t have management flying with you on the plane, and I like that.

Why was it important to start this business?

10 years ago my mom was diagnosed with a rare breast cancer and they gave her three months to live. We started juicing and eating raw foods and she lived more than three years with a healthy lifestyle and juicing. When my son was teething, I went to the store to find a frozen treat for him and everything was packed with sugars, dyes, and nothing real. I decided to use my mom’s juices after seeing what they did for her. I even named my ice pops after my tooth fairy to continue my mom’s legacy. I started freezing the juice in pouches when a friend informed me that the local school PTA was selling them on Fridays. That’s when I knew I needed to start this business. I tested my ice pops and business idea on my friends in 2013 and their response was pure love and support. My husband and I launched the company at our local Farmer’s Market and we soon after were welcomed into Whole Foods. Now we are in more than 30 retail stores and our ice pops are approved by Benicia Unified Schools and available for all school events.

What’s your big dream?

Though expanding our retail offerings to more stores and regions to reach our fans and customers who enjoy them, my big dream is to offer my ice pops in all schools and hospitals where people really need them. My vision for Fairyella Ice Pops is to have them included as a nutritious part of our children’s meal plan during the school day and as a nutritious treat that is offered to patients after pediatric and oncological procedures.

The Milestone Makers program is designed to help early-to-mid-stage founders set, hit, and celebrate milestones critical to company growth over 12 weeks.
