The Cricket Draft T20 World Cup — GW 7 Preview

After all the chaos of the Super 12 stage, the semi-finals didn’t quite live up to the hype. Comfortable victories for Pakistan and England were secured over New Zealand and India respectively with the victors’ opening partnerships proving the difference.

Now the tournament returns to Melbourne for the showpiece final and with it comes the familiar forecast of rain. Sunday is looking bleak as is the reserve day on Monday but fingers crossed a winner is found over the next couple of days.

Pakistan v England

Harrison’s Pakistan Top Pick: Shaheen Shah Afridi has slowly grown into this tournament after coming back from injury. The skills that have made him one of the most feared bowlers in the short form have returned and he is providing Pakistan with early breakthroughs which could well be crucial in the final.

Harrison’s England Top Pick: It has taken a while for England’s batting to fire this tournament but Jos Buttler and Alex Hales have put on three of the four highest stands in the tournament in their last three games. The role of Buttler particularly will be important on Sunday as he can adapt to bat in shortened periods of time or be the base for England to build off.

Pakistan Differential: A lot of noise pre tournament was made about the reliance on the openers for Pakistan but Iftikhar Ahmed on a couple of occasions has proven why he is a valuable asset to their side. Two half centuries at an impressive strike rate have rescued them in crucial games and landed them in the position they find themselves in.

England Differential: Like it has been for the batters, Adil Rashid initially struggled for rhythm and wickets but he has grown into his role in the last two games picking up key wickets of Pathum Nissanka and Suryakumar Yadav. The extra control he has brought to the middle overs has allowed England to squeeze their opponents and keep them to chaseable totals. A repeat on Sunday could see the trophy flying back to England.
