More than 100K take the streets to demand Trump’s tax returns

Yesterday, more than one hundred thousand Americans — and about a dozen inflatable chickens — came together to send Donald Trump a simple message: “we do care” about your unprecedented refusal to disclose your tax returns.

From Tucson, Arizona, to Naples, Florida, “liberals and anti-Trump conservatives alike” came together “to call on President Trump to release his tax returns, saying Americans deserve to know about his business ties and potential conflicts of interest.” At Mar-a-Lago, the president’s motorcade was even forced to take a “circuitous” route home to avoid “large crowds” at Tax March-a-Lago. And protesters didn’t just march for transparency — they also demanded a fairer, more equitable, tax system. As the Seattle Times reported, Tax March participants were driven by a deep concern for “the growing gap between rich and poor and a tax code that favors the wealthy.”

Just a few months after Kellyanne Conway said no one cared about Trump’s tax returns, more than 100,000 Americans proved her wrong: “turns out, people still care about President Trump’s tax returns.”

Associated Press: ‘We do care’: Tax March protesters call on Trump to release tax returns in rallies across U.S.

“Thousands of sign-waving, chanting protesters marched through streets across America demanding that President Donald Trump release his tax returns so the public can examine his business ties and determine whether he has links to foreign powers.”

Washington Post: The Tax March: Protesters around the country call on Trump to release his taxes

“Some wore shirts with an image of President Trump as the Monopoly mascot hauling a bag of money. Others taunted the president with signs that said they would show him their taxes, if he showed them his. And in front of a few thousand people on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol there stood an oversized inflatable chicken with hair resembling Trump’s, suggesting the president is “too chicken” to release his taxes to the public.

“From Seattle to the District, protesters gathered in cities throughout the country Saturday calling on President Trump to release his personal tax returns as part of a nationwide Tax March. The protest falls on the country’s traditionally recognized deadline to file taxes, April 15.”

USA Today: Tax Day protesters demand Trump release his returns

“Protesters in the nation’s capital came from as far away as North Carolina and New York. Most carried signs and some wore the signature pink hats from the Jan. 21 Women’s March that drew millions and helped spawn the Tax Day protest. Others carried plastic chickens and a few wore Russian-themed hats”
