I never lived at home after college but I can tell you that, had I done so, my parents would not have accepted any rent from me. I would have endeavored to contribute sneakily: buying groceries, cleaning where necessary, doing random chores. I would also manage my own laundry. But, yeah, my parents barely even let my husband and me pay for meals out when we are together (we have had to pretend to go to the bathroom and then grab the waiter and sneakily pay, that’s how adamant they are) so no way would they have let me pay rent. Save your money for the future, they would say.
